empowered in english

As 2024 Summer Exam Season approaches, I am holding various online English Literature Workshops to support revision in helpful, friendly and confidence-building ways. Does your year 11 student want to join us?

  • 'Macbeth': The Characters

This first session is centred around the characters in ‘Macbeth’. We will discuss the protagonists/main characters, Macbeth & Lady Macbeth, as well as those supernatural witches, King Duncan, best mate Banquo, Macduff and future King, Malcolm.

We will make notes using the method that works best for you (mind maps/bullet points/colourful works of art) and consider 3 key, memorable quotations for each.

Afterwards, you will receive my PowerPoint to further your knowledge, plus an exemplar answer.

  • 'An Inspector Calls': The characters

This workshop focuses on the central characters of J.B.Priestley’s socialist play: Mr & Mrs Birling, Sheila, Eric, Gerald, Eva Smith/Daisy Renton and Inspector Goole. Perhaps with a bit of Edna thrown in.

What’s really significant about these characters is the development (or not) of their empathy for those who society is less kind to - and how the audience feel about the family, and society as a whole.

After the session, I will send you my resources for the play so that you can add to your revision toolkit.
